Annie McLean

Artist Statement

I was born a ‘creative’ with an imagination that has created other worlds through both the written word and the visual.  Although I wish I had had the opportunity to develop my passion for creating art as a young person I cannot ignore the life-experiences that have formed my present love of landscape and nature.  Originally born in North Lanarkshire. I moved away in the mid-70’s to marry my RAF husband and raise four daughters, mainly in the Oxfordshire area.  In 2002 I moved to East Anglia where I established myself as an artist in Suffolk before returning to Scotland in 2014.

It has always been the land that has inspired me: the sleepy traditional chocolate-box country villages of Oxfordshire and the Cotswolds; the huge skies of East Anglia; the drama of the glens, lochs and mountains of Scotland.  I have the advantage of living and working at the border of two of the most beautiful counties in Scotland: Angus and Perthshire. My studio is in Coupar Angus, Perthshire and I also have a small gallery next door.

I am a professional artist working mainly in oils and acrylics, although I do enjoy using a wide variety of other mediums.
