What Does An Artist Do All Day?

DAY NINE

DAY NINE 〰️

13/08/2022 08:27 – DAY NINE

A late start this morning.  It was a late finish last night too.  I was not in bed before 01:30 which is massively late for me.  I just could not switch off yesterday. So much to do. So much to research and find out about.  Yesterday was certainly a discovery day and the more I found out the more I had to unearth.  So much to write about too.  I managed to pack quite a bit of creativity into the day.  The gel printing is proving to be inspirational and instinctive.  Certainly good for freeing up the style and thought process.  Likewise the reading of The Seven Daughters of Eve.  There is another book I want to obtain by Professor Bryan Sykes.  In fact two.  Both about genetics.  Perhaps a visit to the Amazon store.  I think I will be painting with Bryan for a long time to come.

The painting I am most pleased with yesterday already has a title.  It is the one called Nubian Pilgrim.  A simple few strokes painted onto the gel plate, allowed to dry then pulled off with gold acrylic.  The pull brought with it some dioxazine purple with it that had been left on the plate.  The happy accident.  Perhaps I am an ‘accidental artist’.  Or maybe I just see things where no-one else does.  Another book journey artwork that I feel could be framed up.

It’s getting late and I have a 10:00 appointment so it is tea, shower and out the door.

New work getting ready for framing: #1: Nubian Pilgrim #2: Sacred Waters #3: Distant Fields #4: Golden Finds

Back in the Studio (Gallery open but with note on door to say I am working in Studio), I have cut down a piece from yesterday, added some pencil lines, and it makes for a nice landscape composition.  Title? Not sure yet.  Waterfall?  The Waterfall? Gentle Falls? Summer Falls? White Pool?  Eve’s Pool? (Relating to the book I am reading painting?).  Sacred Waters?

I’m trying to busy myself with finishing things.  That is never an easy task for me.  I have to decide on a title and sometimes titles just don’t come easy!  The title forms part of the art.  It is the introduction to the work.  An introduction the artist presents to the viewer before the silent communication between art and onlooker.  Today I’ve finished one piece – the Waterfall from yesterday.  This has now been mounted and is ready to go to the framer.  Once I have a price for framing then I can cost the piece for selling.  Back to finishing ……
